Fighting the Inevitable|
Twisting catastrophic dreams
Beneath the silent waves of sleep
When all at once it's left to me
To me, to bring them all to peace.
But war is fraught with fire and glory
And smoke fills the minds of many
Before the twilight dawns so empty,
I'll not find rest till the sun is setting.
Before the time, before the serving,
Crumbling towers draw lines on sand
Dancing figures with broken machines
Bring about the darkness of man.
Like apparitions, naked in the fires
Suicides and falling empires
Bringing about the end to it all
But I am to stand before the waves
Destruction laying at my feet
Am I to stop this heartless consent?
And who will help me stand all night?
Charged with keeping alive the ruin
Bound to struggle against our whims
Trying to see the fitting end for it all,
And I forgot what it was I'm fighting.
